About Rockville Brass Band

The Rockville Brass Band is Maryland’s oldest award-winning British-style brass band. Founded in 1976, it has performed throughout the greater Washington, DC area for the last 45 years, playing a range of popular, holiday, and traditional music and newly commissioned works for brass.

Thirty musicians, made up of veterans of our nation’s military bands, music educators, collegiate performance students, and serious amateur players drawn from the Maryland, Virginia, and DC communities comprise the band. The band regularly shares the stage with virtuoso soloists, special guests like the US Army Herald Trumpets, and other local groups. It travels to represent Maryland at festivals and competitions, including the Gettysburg Brass Band Festival (PA), the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival (NJ), and the Dublin Festival of Brass (OH). At the national level, we have twice won the NABBA championship in the 2nd Section in Fort Wayne, IN.

The band’s mission is to engage local audiences and artists with our innovative programming, to inspire the next generation of brass players through outreach, to represent Maryland at regional and national festivals and competitions, and to promote and develop an appreciation for the unique sound of British-style brass bands.
