Dereck Scott

Dr. Dereck Scott, principal cornet, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has been a member of the Rockville Brass Band since 2015. Dereck studied Trumpet Performance at Duquesne University under Roger Sherman, and completed a Masters and Doctoral degree in Performance at West Virginia University. Dereck has had a long history with performing with brass bands, as he was a member, principal cornet and soloist with the River City Youth Brass Band (a youth ensemble from Pittsburgh’s River City Brass Band). A multi-faceted performer, Dereck is equally comfortable behind the cornet, a baton, or as an arranger/composer. As a performer, Dereck has performed with numerous orchestras in the Pittsburgh area, including the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, The McKeesport Symphony, and the River Cities Orchestra. In addition, he has presented guest recitals both the Northern Virginia and Pittsburgh areas. When not performing with the Rockville Brass Band, Dereck is a free-lance musician in the DC Metro area and is currently the Director of Bands at the Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia.
