Annual Brass Clinic, Concert, & Scholarship Competition

The Rockville Brass Band hosts a brass clinic and concert each June. It offers students (and now seniors, too) the opportunity to learn from international soloists, rehearse with the Band, and perform in Rockville. In addition, the band hosts a solo competition and awards scholarships to student winners.

The 2026 clinic and concert features trumpeter Susan Rider and euphoniumist Andrew Ribo. Both are accomplished educators and performers. The clinic takes place June 6 at Cabin Cabin John Middle School in Potomac, MD. The concert is June 7, 2pm, at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.

The 2025 event featured internationally known performers and educators Jazzie Pigott, leading the low brass clinic, and Amy McCabe, leading the cornet and flugelhorn session. The 2025 winners of the solo competition were Matthew Shoykhet and Sophie Huang (1st and 2nd in the High School Division), and Jocelyn Moyer and Talbot Jennings (1st and 2nd in the Collegiate Division).

Clinicians in the 2024 event were Hiram Diaz (euphonium) and Vince DiMartino (trumpet). The winners of the 2024 Solo Competition, dedicated to Dr. Kenneth Krohn, were: 1st place in the college division: Jocelyn Moyer, cornet; 2nd place: Talbot Jennings, trombone; 1st place in the High School division: Megan Hunleth, trumpet; 2nd place: Matthew Connors, euphonium.
