Annual Brass Clinic, Concert, & Scholarship Competition

The Rockville Brass Band hosts an annual brass clinic and concert, which offers students the opportunity to learn from international soloists, rehearse with the Band, and perform in Rockville. In addition, the band hosts a solo competition and awards scholarships to the winners.

Participants in the 2024 event included clinicians Hiram Diaz (euphonium) and Vince DiMartino (trumpet) (not shown), members of the Rockville Brass Band, tuba instructor Scott Cameron, and area high school and college students: Amyah Jackson of Parkdale High School, Chase Vaughn of Howard University, Darwin Bautista of DuVal High School, Alex Pepin of James Madison High School, Jocelyn Moyer of James Madison University, Meraal Hasan of Winston Churchill High School, Matthew Shoykhet of Thomas S. Wootton High School, Gabriel Shoykhet of Thomas S. Wootton High School, Maurice Holmes of James Hubert Blake HS, Talbot Jennings of Shenandoah University, Tariq Gibbs of SUNY ESF, Megan Hunleth of Montgomery Blair High School, Reeve Thomas of Shenandoah University, Matthew Connors of Winston Churchill High School, Ronald Nicol of Winston Churchill Highschool, Waverly Nakashima of University of Maryland, Jos Shrestha of Winston Churchill Highschool, and Diego Alvarenga of Fairmont Heights High School. 

The winners of the 2024 Solo Competition, dedicated to Dr. Kenneth Krohn, received scholarships of $1,000 and $500 for first and second place, respectively. They were: 1st place in the college division: Jocelyn Moyer, cornet; 2nd place: Talbot Jennings, trombone; 1st place in the High School division: Megan Hunleth, trumpet; 2nd place: Matthew Connors, euphonium.
